AROO (Oregon) - Lewis & Clark Trail Tour LEWIS AND CLARK TRAIL TOUR, SEPT 1-21, 2024 Any history buffs out there? Interested in following in the steps of the Lewis and Clark Expedition from Kentucky to Oregon? If so, this tour may be for you. I have been working on an auto tour that would follow, as close as possible, their epic adventure to the Pacific Ocean. After a couple of years of research, I have come up with what I think will be a very interesting and informative tour focusing primarily on Lewis and Clark while incorporating a number of Native American sites as they often played a critical role in the success of the Expedition. The tour will incorporate stops at 200 +/- interpretive centers and historical sites. The tour book includes narrative, as well as quotes from Lewis and Clark Expedition members specific to the sites we visit as well, as detailed day-to-day driving instructions. I have tried to limit “seat time” to between 4 and 6 hours. I have identified lodging and dining facilities along the route. You will be making your own lodging reservation and paying for your own meals. That being said, I will have reservations made where necessary for dinners and will pre-order to-go sandwiches to facilitate a more efficient lunch experience. Tour will depart Salem/Portland on Sunday September 1st with an expected arrival in Kentucky on September 5th. This will be a more or less straight shot to get to our starting point. The official Lewis and Clark Trail Tour will start Friday, September 6. This will NOT be a sports car tour. There will be some gravel roads. While an SUV might be ideal, a regular passenger car should do fine as long as you do not mind some non-paved roads. Tour is limited to 10 cars due to logistics. Visit www.alfaclub.org for details for locations, lodging suggestions and basic itinerary. Contact Tom McGirr at tomsredalfa@gmail.com or 503-362-8597.

This year’s Half-Fast Lap is another romp through the mountains, taking in both the Cascades and the Olympics as well as a ferry ride! We’ll start our 1,000 miles of fun roads in Bothell, Washington on Saturday, Sep 14. Gathering for coffee and treats at the Caffé Ladro (18610 Bothell Way NE, WA 98011), we’ll head out from there simply following Hwy 2 eastbound up past Goldbar, Startup, Index, and through Stevens Pass. The far side of the pass is still Hwy 2 except for the turn off for Plain and the Chumstick Hwy. In Wenatchee, we take a side trip south towards Malaga before heading back north to Chelan for lunch. Orchards, valleys, dry fields, bare mountains, rivers and deep Lake Chelan are all part of the sights, before crossing the mighty Columbia River, heading up a twisty canyon and making our way to Grand Coulee Dam. Next it’s the fun and fast run up through Nespelem, Omak, Loup Loup Pass, ending the day in Twisp at the Idle-A-While Inn, a fun roadside, old school motel. Cabins or rooms are available for Saturday, Sept 14. Call 509-997-3222 and ask for the Alfa Romeo Club block of rooms to get a 10% discount. Sunday morning we go west through the North Cascades to Bellingham, and drop down Chuckanut Drive. We‘ll cross Deception Pass onto Whidbey island and take the Keystone Ferry from Coupville to Port Townsend. We‘ll stay at the historic Monarch Hotel. Call 360-385-5467 and ask for the Alfa Romeo block of rooms for a 10% discount. Monday we‘ll visit Hurricane Ridge, stop for lunch, then travel along Hood Canal to return to the Seattle area. Reserve rooms by August 14. Don‘t miss out on this great tour! Half-Fast Lap - RSVP by August 15!!

“Viva Alfa Romeo” is the annual car show hosted by the Mid-Florida Alfa Romeo Owners Club. This gala event is for Alfa Romeos of all years, along with vintage Fiat automobiles. The purpose of this event is to strengthen the bonds of fellowship among all participating Alfistis and Fiatsis, to recognize those who strive to maintain autos of rare design or condition, and to provide a venue where we may display the virtues of our cars to the general public. The site we have chosen again is Market Street in the heart of downtown Celebration, Florida. The town has agreed to cordon off their main street for our show site. The Town of Celebration draws visitors from around the world. The location near Disney World is ideal for attracting a large number of spectators during the entire time of the exhibition. A welcome dinner will be held on Friday, November 1 in downtown Celebration, and discounted hotel rooms will be available to attendees.
